About tarod andrewsDJ Tarod Andrews, grew up in Irvington N.J. (21 Street), so he listening to some of best DJs such as Ted Currier(his mentor) on 107.5 WBLS,92.3 WKTU,Merlin Bobb on 107.5 WBLS,Shep Pettibone on 98.7 WKRS (Kiss FM), Timmy Regisford at the “Shelter” (NYC) and on WBLS, Tony Humphries at “Zanzibar” and WKRS,Jellybean Benitez on 92.3 WKTU and Larry Lavan at the legendary “Paradise Garage”. When he plays, he likes those who listen to hear some of all these great legends in his music. DJ Tarod been playing since 1976 and when he heard Ted Currier (WBLS) during his late night dance party mix put together two records at the same time, it was something he had to learn how to do. He started with one turntable with no pitch, seven LPs that he won on 107.5 WBLS.FM and a mixer that ran on batteries. He always was the type to figure out how thing's work, so he hooked the turntable up to a radio and waited till the radio played one of the seven records and he would mix them together. Once he got another turntable it was ‘on’ from there. His first real spot other than house parties was at the “Pink Pub” on Springfield Avenue in Irvington N.J., in 1979 with his man DJ Sam, who gave him fifteen minutes to do his thing, DJ Sam and the people there at the club was feeling him and he was only sixteen at the time. He was given Sunday's nights @ Pink Pub, and he started making mixed 8 tracks tapes and laughing he adds, “Yes. 8 tracks!” Soon after that he started making cassette tape's for family & friends.From there he & his father became the resident DJ for GM MOTOR in Linden, NJ for eighteen years.They played in clubs from New York to North Carolina to the Midwest. His first CD "RECOGNIZE" (2001) was boot legged from New York to as far as California.When Ford Motor Co. transferred him from NJ to Kansas City. He remembers when a female at his work asked him where she should go party in Kansas City. He told her he doesn’t go out because he liked House Music and there weren’t any House Clubs down there. He told her he was a DJ and played for himself at the moment. The next day she came to work with some of her CDs and they listened while they worked. She put in one CD and it was nice, and he told her if she liked that CD she would love his CD's. Halfway thru the CD he realized it was his first CD “RECOGNIZE” all the way down here in Kansas City MO. It appeared that a friend of hers picked up a bootleg copy of his CD from downtown Newark, NJ. He says, “What a feeling that was for him. 6,000 people work's in the plant and he meet the one person with 1 of his CD's. WOW! That was 2002.” This is what Tarod loves doing making music. His music isn't a set or a mix it's a show, a production. He continues with saying, “Today's DJs focus on the new music or tracks but for him it has always been the mix that he focus on along with the music. So tell a friend to come & experience the experience.”
